Operating within the urban fabric of the city center, we wanted to create something exceptional and timeless. This led to the idea of transforming an everyday space – the underground garage – into a place for artistic expression. Hence the decision to create original, site-specific murals, designed especially for this development, blending classical symbolism with a modern architectural context.
The artistic concept behind the murals is inspired by the name of the developer, which references the Italian Renaissance architect Andrea del Palladio (1508–1580). The pseudonym "Palladio" is derived from the name of the Greek goddess Pallas Athena, forming a natural link between architecture and Greek mythology.
One of the murals features an owl – the attribute of Athena, symbolizing wisdom, knowledge, and the arts. This directly alludes to the etymology of the developer’s name and its architectural heritage.
The main theme of the murals focuses on chthonic deities, associated with the underworld, which harmonizes perfectly with the location of the artwork – an underground parking garage.
Among the depicted figures, we find:
-
Demeter – goddess of the harvest and fertility of the earth,
-
Persephone – queen of the underworld and daughter of Demeter,
-
Hypnos – the god of sleep,
-
Orpheus, calming Cerberus, the three-headed guardian of the underworld, with his lyre,
-
and a figure holding a fish – possibly a reference to Hades, who is sometimes shown with this attribute representing the waters of the underworld.
Several walls also feature symbols associated with these deities, enriching the mythological narrative. A particularly creative element is the lightning bolt – a symbol of Zeus – placed above an electric vehicle charging station, offering a modern interpretation of a classical motif.
The murals combine mythological ambiance, symbolism of knowledge and art, and references to architectural history – creating a cohesive, multi-layered story embedded in a space of everyday use.
